I am taking a break from the hand sewing. I've refitted the gown now, and am halfway done with hand sewing the large pleats in the back.

This time I really am making them the large pleats, now that I have seen Jane's backside and saw how those pleats looked. I still didn't do "proper pleats" by sewing the cartridges in first, just divide and ( Read more... )

I just put on my Tudor gown, and it overlaps by about 2-3", when before it would lace about 1-2" apart. And this overlap is without the boned kirtle holding me even tighter ( Read more... )

Well, I didn't get to head south for my Kingdom's 12th Night, but I did attend a 12th Night with my local ren-faire friends (see photos). My Henrician outfit (~ 1530s) is now mostly done, with a new sash and kirtle sleeves still left to go. I did get a couple of photos, but they didn't show the outfit off as well as I had hoped. Slowly working on things today. Been kinda out of it, so nothing really concentrated. I've made the silk sash, but need to add the cross at the bottom of it. I have finished the kirtle straps, and just fitted the gown straps as well, but need to finish sewing it tonight before heading to bed. The black guards are done!! I am not sure I like how the areas that had to curve slightly came out. I will try to steam them into shape later. But the ends all worked out, nothing got bunched up, and the straight sections are all straight. One thing to note about the curved sections is that when handsewing the underside, it is best to first clip ( Read more... )
